Gail (Bud) O'Neal Bowen - 1953
Gail (Bud) O'Neal Bowen graduated from Technical High in 1953. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Public Health, and earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Northwest Missouri State University.
Bud served for 26 years in the U.S. Army and served as a Army Aviator. He was also on the staff of the Army Surgeon General and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. Bud received 2 Silver Stars and 2 Purple Hearts.
Upon retirement from the military, Mr. Bowen joined the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. He later served as Chief of Health Communications for the CDC. Bud then accepted a position with the CDC-sponsored HIV/AIDS clinical research in West Africa. He then returned to Atlanta and now works in the international Global AIDS program office.
Bud and his wife, Rebecca, have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and reside in Atlanta.
