William T. Vierregger - 1941


Born in 1924 in Omaha, Bill graduated from Tech in 1941. Upon graduation he immediately joined the US Navy. He was assigned to Aviation Machinist Mate School and then applied for flight training. At age 20 he was the pilot of a Navy PB4Y-2 PRIVATEER, a four-engine bomber with a crew of 12, and flying out of the Phillipines.


In 1944 his plane sank 2 Japanese ships. He was in the Atomic Bomb Tests at Bikini in 1948. In 1948-49 he was in the Berlin Air Lift. He was also Squadrom Commander in the Korean War and in 1954-55, was the Executive Officer on the USS Yorktown CVA-10.


In 1963 he was the Commanding Officer Patrol Squadron Alaska. In 1964-65 he was Squadron Commander in Vietnam. In 1966 he was the Executive Office on the USS Henrico APA-45. He was Base Commander Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. From 1971 to 1974, he was Processing Chief, Defense Intelligence Agency.


Bill retired as a Captain, US Navy after having served 33 years.
