Albert Kercheval - 1958

Albert Kercheval graduated from Tech in 1958. He received his MS in 1975, in Public Administration and his BS in 1962, in Civil Engineering.

His is a most remarkable success story. Instead of heeding his high school Counselor's advice .. "She told me a minority couldn't make it as an engineer. She told me to be a cook instead" .. he took that as a personal challenge in life. He learned quickly to work hard to make his dreams come true. That attitude led him to civil engineering, and today, he is President, founder, and majority owner of Kercheval Engineers, a civil and structural engineering and construction management firm in California, employing 146 employees and offices in six states. He also founded Kercheval and Associates, Inc.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Kercheval has served on numerous boards and organizations within San Diego County and the state of California. He was a Commissioner for the City of San Diego Planning Commission. He also founded the San Diego Council of Black Engineers and Scientists.

Mr. Kercheval is now retired and lives with his wife in California.
