William G. Wachtler - 1959
George W. Wachtler graduated from Tech in 1959. He went on to receive his BS degree in Accounting from Omaha University in 1964. He was on active duty with the US Army, and received his Honorable Discharge from the US Army Reserves in 1970.
In high school, he excelled in baseball, playing on the 1959 All City Baseball Team. He was also the Baseball Batting Champion in 1959. While in college, he was a member of the O.U. baseball team .. the All-American NAIA College World Series Tournament Team and, a member of the All-American NAIA College World Series Baseball 20th Anniversary All-Tournament Team. To that end, he is now a Board member of the College World Series.
He began his career with the Omaha World Herald in 1964 and was promoted in 1967 to Advertising Billing Supervisor. In 1980 he was Chief Accountant, and in 1989, he was the Director of Administrative Services. In 1994, he became the Director of Finance and Administration and, in 1998, was promoted to his current position of Senior Vice President of the Omaha World Herald. He and wife Sheryl reside in Omaha.
