Jerry Ball - Tech Teacher


Jerry was a Tech teacher from 1976 to 1984 then stayed in the building at the Career Center until 2000 teaching Auto Mechanics. Jerry Graduated from Grand Island High School in 1957 then from Kearney State College with a degree in Education in 1962 then went to U. N. O. and received a masters degree in administration in 1979.


Jerry coached high school football during his entire teaching career; 14 years at Tech, 19 years at Bryan and finishing his coaching career as assistant to his son, Jay Ball, at South High and Central High. Jerry was named assistant Coach of the Year in 1990 by the Metro Football Coaches Association. After his death in 2006, the Metro Football Coaches Association named the Assistant Coach of the Year award in his honor. Jerry was awarded posthumously the Bryan High School 2007 Cage Classic Award by the Bryan Coaches Association for excellence and dedication to student athletes.


Jerry was the Director of the discus at the Nebraska State Track Meet and was honored for 30 years of service with that event in 2004.


In addition to countless hours of unpaid service to various Omaha Public Schools activities, Jerry volunteered at Seven Oaks of Florence, an affordable housing community for low to moderate income elderly. Jerry volunteered to conduct tours of the Tech High School building for the Tech alumni who were celebrating their various class reunions.


Jerry passed away in 2006.
