Kathryne Louise Taylor Favors - 1941


Mr. Crookham received his B.S. from Peru State in 1955. He then received his M.S. from Omaha University in 1958.


Kathryne Taylor Favors received a bachelor’s degree from Fisk University in Nashville, TN, a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska and her doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley. Kathryne loved teaching and had a particular passion for black history. In the late 1940s and early ‘50s, she was one of the first African-American teachers in the Omaha Public Schools.


Kathryne was a born teacher. Her teaching career began in Omaha at Howard Kennedy, Long and Lake School. After moving to California she was employed as a teacher in the Berkley Unified School District in Berkley, California. She later became a Principal and eventually Group Coordinator in Human Resources. She left Berkley and joined the Del Paso Heights School District in Sacramento, California as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. She went on to become a professor at National University in Sacramento.


Kathryne and her husband John started Jonka Enterprises, a publishing company that developed teaching materials in the area of Black History, for students in grades K-12. Along with publishing they conducted workshops and were often featured speakers at teacher conventions and in-services.


Kathryne passed away on August 28, 2008
